I have heard for mulitiple places the Vikings are considering bringing in a veteran kicker. Who you might ask? Doug Brien, yes that Doug Brien, the one that missed 2 extra points in one game. But a few things about Brien...
..He is good at kicking off.
...Two years ago was 27-28 from 50 yards or in.
...Last year was 24-29, not too bad. He can make field goals in the NFL. He looks like a much worse kicker than he is because our only memories are the game agaisnt the Bills, where he missed two extra points, and the Steelers/Jets playoff game. Give him a chance to compete against Jonathan Nichols the former Lou Groza award winner for Ole Miss, he beat out Nate Kaeding of the Chargers in 03, and was only 20-27 in o4. Nichols can kick off, but a rookie kicker with a rep missing pressure kicks would be problematic.
.The Vikings cut Blake Elliott, Mike Nattiel, and Kenny Mixon today. I have a problem with the Mixon release, because he had already redone his contract to about 1.1 million per year, he might not have made the team, but give him the chance to compete. I just don't like the move after he sacrificed for the team.
